Staying Cool and Healthy This Summer

With summer in full swing, beating the increasingly hot heat is becoming a more difficult task. The type of heat that you get in the UK is very different to that abroad. The heat here in the UK is more humid than heat abroad which tends to be more intense.

Obviously as it’s sunny you want to get outside and enjoy the heat while it’s around, so staying indoors for some time during the day can be a nice break. However, keeping cool can be difficult at home. So here are just a few tips for keeping yourself cool at home.

Wear light weight, light coloured and loose fitting clothing. This one is a fairly obvious tip, dress light to make sure that your body doesn’t get too hot. Although some people are scared by this, it’s time to get the shorts out.

Drink lots of fluids, not just when you’re thirsty. By drinking lots of water and juices, your body will keep cool, refreshed and topped up with all the sugar and minerals that it requires. A large amount of your minerals are lost through sweat, this needs to be replaced by drinking fluids.

Use a dehumidifier. If you currently don’t have one, they are not too expensive, but they really do pay off. Dehumidifiers are used to remove water within the air to make the air around you less humid. It does this by using a thing called Silica gel, which despite the name, is a solid. A large array of appliances use this gel because it can absorb the water from the air.

Don’t rush around, stay relaxed. Staying calm and relaxed for the a couple of days is important because it means your body can get used to the heat. If you decide to get out into the sun straight away, you will become hot and tired faster than if you had relaxed beforehand.

Although you don’t get a great deal of sun in the UK, those were just a few tips to help you stay cool.
