I work at home, and I take the home office deduction. I have a separate room that is my regular office space used exclusively as an office, so that is not the question.

I’m just sure if these are particular items I would be able to deduct. I bought a back pillow from the chiropractor for my typing chair, and I need to buy an air filter for this horrible allergy season and an air conditioner for the home offfice. Are these expenses I can deduct since they will only be used in the home office? Do I need to depreciate them?

When depreciating, is there a minimum dollar amount? The back pillow was only 25 bucks. If I don’t depreciate it, what category would that be?

Thanks for any information!! I have looked up a lot of info on this but I’m just not sure about these items.
As I said, my home office is my regular place of business. I do everything from here on the computer. That’s it.

I think I read somewhere air conditioning is not applicable to Section 179. And I also don’t know how the air filter would figure into that or if it’s deductible.

If you using furnace heat everyday or throughout the winter then you have to be sure that your heater’s filters are changed regularly. Changing your Furnace Air Filter is simple and quick task that you can do by yourself.

You must change your furnace filters on a monthly basis based on manufacturer general recommendation. If you are not so sure with the frequency filter change for your heater’s model then read up and follow your furnace manual about the recommended filter maintenance time table. When it is the time, read instruction manual to make sure that the proper sequence of actions to change the furnace air filter on your particular model are followed.

Step by step how to change your furnace air filter:

Step 1 – disconnect the power of your electricity before you perform any furnace maintenance, including Furnace Air Filter change. If you use gas heater then you should shut down your gas line connection before doing any furnace maintenance or filter changes.

Step 2 – open the furnace blower door as describe in your furnace model.

Step 3 – your furnace filter must be seen after the blower door opened. Just remove out the old filter, you can see clearly the removed air filter condition whether it need to be replace or just clean it up the dirt and other particles from the air that flows through your heater system. But if the filter is coated black then it’s time to replace it with the new one.

Step 4 – if your filter extremely clogged then you have to check other accumulation in the blower itself and in the venting system surrounding your heater unit immediately. Any imposition in the furnace air flow can cause in efficiency and even a major fire hazard.

Step 5 – when you confident that no other obstruction exist and the filter does need to change. Simple follow the manual instruction and get a new Furnace Air Filter from your local hardware store according to your furnace model. It is very important that you buy the correct one and please do not usually interchange between models. If you have a washable furnace filter just remove it and wash all the dust out and then replace it the same way you remove it.

Step 6 – the filtration is unidirectional means that the filter must be inserted so that the air flow is directed through it in the proper direction and do not put it backward. Most filters are fiberglass with one side slightly oily and this side usually faces the blower and the other side collects the filter material for disposal. If there is no indication of the correct installation in your manual description then you might simple to look at the filter itself because every models will have printed arrows direction on them to show you the way to insert the filter itself.

Step 7 – when it is done, securely closed the blower door and switch on the electric power or reactivated the gas power and set your thermostat at the appropriate temperature.

It is very crucial to change your Furnace Air Filter regularly in order to protect your furnace and the air quality in your home for the long run.

The advent of modern technology has brought about significant changes in how people live their lives. Most of us can attest that it has made daily living easier and more convenient.
However, these advantages do not come without a cost. One of the prices we have to pay for a more convenient lifestyle is a lower quality of air. Air pollution now surrounds us and even when we are inside the comfort of our own home, we cannot escape poor quality air.
In this article, you will find practical information as to how air pollution affects people and the environment and how simple methods like using as Aprilaire Air Cleaner can make a huge difference on the quality of air that we breathe in.
It is true that during the ancient times when technology meant simple machines like levers and pulleys, people breathe in a much cleaner air. As time went by and changes were made on how the world works, the quality of air has also changed.
For one, transportations that made it easier for us to get from one place to another emit toxic pollutants into the atmosphere. These dangerous elements such as carbon monoxide, lead, and smoke become a part of the air that we inhale and affect our health negatively.
Some of the common ailments associated with poor quality air include allergies, lung cancer, respiratory problems, asthma, and weakened immune systems. These harmful pollutants can affect even the healthiest person, which means that it is difficult to escape the perils of air pollution.
Most of the time people console themselves by thinking that air pollution is something that happens outside our homes and that we are inside our safety zone, we are invincible to these pollutants. The opposite is true.
Even inside your home, pollutants, dust mites, and bacteria are floating around the atmosphere. And while you cannot run from these pollutants, much less hide from them, the best way you can do to deal with this problem is to install an Aprilaire Air Cleaner in your home.
Homeowners who own this type of device can prove to you the efficiency of Aprilaire Air Cleaner. People who use this immediately feel the difference on the quality of air and that they are now more comfortable knowing that the air inside their home is safer to breathe.
So is it really that necessary to own an Aprilaire Air Cleaner? Is it that important to improve the quality of air we breathe inside our homes? There is no other answer but yes. Without this type of device, your home can be a breeding ground for a wide variety of pollutants that even though you could not see with your naked eyes can be a dangerous threat to your welfare and that of your family.
When you invest in an Aprilaire Air Cleaner, you are doing yourself and your family a favor by ensuring that the air you breathe is safe and clean. It is about time that you buy one for your home.
