What is the difference between a HVAC system and a regular AC/Heater?

by Jeff on April 24, 2010

I just purchased a new home with a HVAC, and I’m not sure what the difference is between it and a traditional AC/Heater. Thanks!

HVAC is a general industry term meaning Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.

It’s not used to describe a certain kind of heating/cooling system or product.

HVAC is an abbreviation for Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning. There are many types of hvac systems. The normal system consists of an air conditioner and a heating system. To learn more about types of hvac systems, check out http://www.hvac-for-beginners.com

HVAC is just an accronym however some how over time it has also been used to seperate a centrally located ac and heating unit from say a wall mounted or portable type room air conditioner. They both are HVAC systems the have just somehow fallen into two categories by some people mainly realtors and people who have no idea what they are talking about.
