Space Heaters Or Radiators?

by Jeff on September 10, 2009

An increasing number of people may not find it within their means to have heated homes in winters due to fluctuating prices of energy. The intention of cutting down on augmented electric bills, as a consequence of using cheap electric heaters that work on electricity, has led people to consider the use of radiators that are operated by alternate fuels like gas or oil. Nevertheless, the cost of operating a heating system is decided by the type of heater used and the existing cost of energy used for the purpose.

Save Money on Heating When Oil Prices Are Up

At any given time the comparative prices of fossil fuels and that of electricity decide whether you can save money by employing a space heater in comparison to a radiator for heating your home. Generally, when oil prices are high you will save money by only heating the rooms that you are using with a space heater. The per hour cost of running a gas furnace varies from $0.13 to $0.20, whereas if you were using fossil fuels, the cost goes up to $1.85 to $3.00.

Save More Money On Heating When Oil Prices Are Down

With a drop in the prices of natural gas and oil, many householders stop patronizing space heaters. It’s not difficult to guess the reason, as it becomes economical to use an oil based boiler for heating a home rather than using an electric space heater. Further, it is more convenient and less hazardous to use a gas or oil heater than an electric space heater while the prices of fuel are more affordable. This is particularly valid when everybody has gone out to work and there is nobody at home during the day or if you have children and pets at home.

It’s always a great thing to buy a heater that is perfect for the size of your room. The reason for this is simple, if it is overpowered, you will have to open doors and windows to cool yourself a bit and spend energy that way. Just take care of these basics and you will have a great winter this year.
