you went to know the size of the room you going to put it in. and then you will buy one to fix that room. it will save you on the cost the long run. the kind is up to you because they all good or they wouldn,t be out there. they grade them good better or best. it all come down to how move you went to pay for one. so have fun and shop around for one.

ask your mom to give it to you for a birthday present
I find it hard to recommend a brand. I suspect there are actually only a few factories making them and they just slap a label on them to the customers specs.
I would urge you instead to go to a retail outlet you feel comfortable with and which will honor warranties without any hassles.
Unless you have a 208v outlet already in a convenient location, stick with the smaller 110v units.
Get one with the electronic controls. They usually have energy saving features and settings that are worth the small extra cost… particularly a humidity control option.
Start with one or two small units. You can always add them later. Besides, having small units in different rooms allows you to zone cool… meaning you can choose the temp of each space individually and only actively cool the room you are occupying.
Zoning actually allows three or four low efficiency units use less energy than an equivalent BTU capacity, high S.E.E.R. central air unit.
I would make one caution regarding sales people. They will probably make the statement that a unit will freeze up if it is too small. They might actually believe this, or are happy to tell you a fib to boost their sales data.
Regardless, an A/C unit will freeze if it is TOO BIG… has to do with not enough heat load.
G’Luck!
